KU School of Engineering

Engineering plays a crucial role in the formation of modern society. Engineering is the basis of technological innovation and development, which drives the community in the mainstream of development. It helps fight societal problems and the development of new solutions. KUSOE produces a number of highly qualified engineers who serve society through development, research, and scholarly activities. A total of five departments are working together to produce different types of engineering human resources, mainly Civil, Geomatics, Computer, Electronics, and Mechanical.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering

The department has been mobilizing students in many rural areas of Nepal. The university has organized various training sessions to apply student’s technical knowledge for the betterment of society. For example, technical programs related to electrical house wirings, simple typing, emails, computer and managing records in computer, photovoltaic systems, and micro-hydro working and maintenance are being demonstrated by the department. The department has also carried out progressive community development and educative activities in Tamakoshi, Langtang, and Kyajin Valley, mostly the Eastern and Midwestern parts of Nepal. KUSOE has also partnered with HimalPartner and NORAD to reach many remote places as possible. This partnership has led to the increment in technological competence and development in the local areas.

Department of Geomatics Engineering

The department provides practical knowledge of surveying and mapping to the students to map many local communities in Nepal. The department is mobilizing students for 3 months in community activities as a part of their academic curriculum. Recently, the department has mobilized students in Panauti municipality for 28 days. This has increased students’ skills and community literacy.

Department of Civil Engineering (Architecture Program)

The department is contributing to the community for a long time. It has prepared the documentation of Traditional houses of Dhulikhel and prepared drawing of historically important buildings/temples at old towns Dhulikhel and Banepa. With the vision to prepare up-to-date drawings and documents of Historic buildings and restoration of projects in the future, the department is mobilizing the students to better the community. The department works in various municipalities and residents from the collaboration with the Society of Nepalese Architect (SONA).

Department of Civil Engineering

The department of Civil Engineering is working relentlessly to enhance the knowledge of the scope of Civil Engineering in Nepal. The department has often acted as a bridge to fill the gaps between the rural and urban community from the interactions or through outreach centers providing knowledge about building technology. The department has been successful in teaching students to implement technical knowledge in rural communities. The department has also provided technical support in the construction of houses, bridges during the Earthquake-2015. Construction of temporary shelter in SuntaKhan and Sera, Kavre and construction of temporary learning center at Shree Samaj Kalyan Primary School, Pachkhal, Kavre after Gorkha Earthquake are some other notable works of the university. Likewise, the department has also shared the knowledge and hands-on training on earthquake-resistant design and construction in many wards and communities.

The department helped the community in Dhulikhel municipality rebuild infrastructure by training the engineers in the 2015 Earthquake. The department also supported many architectural projects and water supply projects in the municipality. Additionally, the department also ran an awareness campaign on earthquake preparedness and safety under the supervision of the head of the department.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME) is actively working on Industries and community-related activities with different projects from Bachelor to Ph.D. level and individual faculty.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME ) has been organizing various skill-oriented training programs for the students to give them hands-on skills to update the skills and find the problem of community and solve these problems. The Students who had taken these training from DoME have been observed to show more confidence to engage in community-driven activities. An initiative from Laboratories of DoME Turbine Testing Lab (TTL), Renewable and Sustainable Energy Lab (RSEL), Energy Lab, Design Lab, Automobile Lab, Green Hydrogen Lab, Gasification Lab constantly involve different projects related to industries and community enhancement activities.
