On 3 February 2022, an MoU was signed between Kathmandu University and Lalitpur Metropolitan City for collaboration on the education sector. The Mayor Mr. Chiribabu Maharjan signed on the behalf of Lalitpur Metropolitan City and the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa signed on the behalf of Kathmandu University.
The following are some of the key points mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding:
- One seat scholarship for undergraduate and postgraduate levels will be provided to the students residing in Lalitpur in the programs conducted in schools at Lalitpur Metropolitan City
- A fund will be set up to improve the quality of education through the joint efforts of the metropolis and the university
- The programs of Kathmandu University School of Arts will play a role in the preservation of original art, culture, and heritage
- Plans will be made in collaboration for the career development and expansion of the educational capacity of the community schools in the metropolis
Chiribabu Maharjan, chief of the metropolis, said that the signing program has paved the way for the formal move forward while Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, said that the local levels and Kathmandu University are complementary to each other.
The Registrar of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma, Acting Dean of School of Arts Ms. Ekku Maya Pun, Dean of School of Education Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean of School of Management Prof. Dr. Devi Prasad Bidari, and other delegates were present at the signing ceremony.
The MoU states that Lok Bahadur Khadka, Education Advisor of the metropolis, and Dr. Sujan Chitrakar, Associate Dean of School of Arts, Kathmandu University will play the role of coordination for the implementation of the programs mentioned in the MoU.
