MOU signed between Green Club of Thoughts (GCT) and Women in Science for the developing World-Nepal chapter (OWSN)

On 27 March 2022, the Green Club of Thoughts (GCT) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Organization for Women in Science for the developing World-Nepal chapter (OWSN). The patron of GCT Prof. Dr. Bivek Baral and the President of GCT Mr. Anup Chhetri signed the MoU on behalf of the club whereas the President of OWSN Dr. Hemu Kharel Kafle signed on behalf of the organization.

The Associate Director of Community Engagement Division at Kathmandu University Mr. Kishor Khanal and the Associate Director of Student Welfare, Dr. Sushil Shrestha witnessed the event. Both parties have agreed to conduct collaborative events in the fields of gender discourse, women empowerment/awareness, public health and so on. Advisors and executive members of both GCT and OWSN were present to mark the event.

MoU signed with National Youth Council, Namobuddha Municipality and Idea Studio Nepal

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Youth Council (NYC), Government of Nepal, Namobuddha Municipality, Idea Studio Nepal and Kathmandu University (KU), Dhulikhel on 23 February 2022 at the office of the Mayor of Namobuddha Municipality, Bhakundebesi, Kavre district.

The Vice-Chairman of the NYC, Mr. Surendra Basnet, Director of Research, Development and Innovation (RDI), KU, Prof. Dr. Deepak Prasad Subedi, Mayor of the Namobuddha Municipality, Mr. Tanka Prasad Sharma (Timilsina) and Board of Director of Idea Studio-Nepal, Mr. Suresh Simkhada signed the MoU. Mr. Rama Kanta Sharma, Dr. Rijan Bhakta Kayastha, Mr. Rajan Poudel and Ms. Alisha Singh from respective organizations were witnesses of the signing ceremony.

The MoU envisages establishing a National Youth Innovation Center at the Namobuddha Municipality, Kavre and attracts individuals with innovative ideas for people’s easy daily life to national development and help them from their startups to the manufacturing stage.

MoU signed between Dhulikhel Municipality, KU and Rotary Club

On 9th February 2022, Dhulikhel Municipality, Kathmandu University and Rotary Club Dhulikhel signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote Dhulikhel as a ‘Clean City’ through the production and use of green hydrogen energy for house hold cooking fuel, re-electrification and transportation fuel. This was the very first time in Nepal that local governing authorities took the lead in achieving zero-carbon targets.

The MoU stipulated to formulate policies and laws through Dhulikhel Municipality to promote clean energy with financial support from the Rotary Club and technical support from Kathmandu University. Major projects within the MoU will be to operate two buses from Dhulikhel to Kathmadu in the next two years using hydrogen, re-electrification for power back-ups and use clean energy as cooking fuel in Dhulikhel Hospital, and Kathmandu University.

The mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality expressed his joy and commitments towards the MoU and anticipated that the use of clean energy can exempt the dependency on fossil fuels. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa highlighted the importance of the collaboration with Dhulikhel Municipality and Rotary Club to pull together the local resources for achieving the zero-carbon goals of COP.

The MoU was signed by the Dean of the School of Engineering Prof. Dr. Manish Pokharel on behalf of KU, the Mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality Mr. Ashok Kumar Byanju (Shrestha) Municipality and Mr. Jay Bahadur Rai, President from Rotary Club Dhulikhel.

MoU signed between Kathmandu University and Lalitpur Metropolitan City

On 3 February 2022, an MoU was signed between Kathmandu University and Lalitpur Metropolitan City for collaboration on the education sector. The Mayor Mr. Chiribabu Maharjan signed on the behalf of Lalitpur Metropolitan City and the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa signed on the behalf of Kathmandu University.

The following are some of the key points mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding:

One seat scholarship for undergraduate and postgraduate levels will be provided to the students residing in Lalitpur in the programs conducted in schools at Lalitpur Metropolitan City
A fund will be set up to improve the quality of education through the joint efforts of the metropolis and the university
The programs of Kathmandu University School of Arts will play a role in the preservation of original art, culture, and heritage
Plans will be made in collaboration for the career development and expansion of the educational capacity of the community schools in the metropolis

Chiribabu Maharjan, chief of the metropolis, said that the signing program has paved the way for the formal move forward while Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, said that the local levels and Kathmandu University are complementary to each other.

The Registrar of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma, Acting Dean of School of Arts Ms. Ekku Maya Pun, Dean of School of Education Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean of School of Management Prof. Dr. Devi Prasad Bidari, and other delegates were present at the signing ceremony.

The MoU states that Lok Bahadur Khadka, Education Advisor of the metropolis, and Dr. Sujan Chitrakar, Associate Dean of School of Arts, Kathmandu University will play the role of coordination for the implementation of the programs mentioned in the MoU.

MoU signed between Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and Kathmandu University (KU)

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Khumaltar, Lalitpur and Kathmandu University (KU), Dhulikhel, Kavre took place on January 14, 2022. The objective of the MoU is to collaborate in the research and training activities in the fields of Science and Technology and tighten the relationship between both parties.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Sunil Babu Shrestha – Vice-Chancellor of NAST and Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa – Vice-Chancellor of KU under the witness of Dr. Mahesh Kumar Adhikari – Secretary of NAST and Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma – Registrar of KU.

Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) was established in 1982 to promote science and technology in the country. The Academy is entrusted with four major objectives: advancement of science and technology; preservation and further modernization of indigenous technologies; promotion of research in science and technology; and identification and facilitation of appropriate technology transfer.

Letter of Agreement between Kathmandu University and Tejganga Multiple Campus

On 24 September 2021, Kathmandu University (KU) and Tejganga Multiple Campus (TMC) signed a Letter of Agreement (LOA) to maintain a friendly relationship which includes mutual cooperation from both the institutions.

All the guests were welcomed by Associate Professor Dr. Hem Raj Kafle, Head of Department of Management, Informatics and Communication. Likewise, Prof. Bal Chandra Luitel, the advisor of the community engagement division welcomed the participants by expressing his words about the importance of community engagement in rural areas.

Dr. Khagendra Acharya read out all the contents of the Letter of Agreement. The Letter of Agreement was signed by Dr. Ambu Bhawani Karki, Chief of Campus from Tejganga Campus and Prof. Devi Prasad Bedari, Dean of Kathmandu University School of Management from Kathmandu University.

The witness from Tejganga Campus was Mr. Bhimsen K.C. and Associate Professor Dr. Hem Raj Kafle from Kathmandu University. At the end Dr. Ambu Bhawani Karki expressed her gratitude to Kathmandu University. Similarly, Prof Devi Prasad Bedari, Dean, offered the final remarks.

MoU signed between Kathmandu University and Society of Economic Journalists Nepal

On 19 August 2021, Kathmandu University (KU) and Society of Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote collaborative activities involving concerned researchers and students from different schools of KU. SEJON will conduct media and communication campaigns to highlight research projects and findings of KU faculties, researchers, and students through various communication mediums.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa highlighted the importance of collaboration with SEJON to communicate specialized research and development activities to the masses in vernacular terms. Likewise, Mr Bhim Gautam, the President of SEJON, expressed his commitments that actions based on this MOU shall be seen soon in the form of tangible outcomes.

The MoU was signed by the Dean of the School of Arts Prof. Dr. Sagar Raj Sharma on behalf of KU and the President Mr. Bhim Gautam from SEJON.

An MoU signing ceremony was held between Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel and Manmohan Technical University, Budhiganga at Senate Hall, CV Raman Auditorium, Kathmandu University on July 15, 2021, with an aim to strengthen Nepal’s Science and Engineering education.
